Phonics

I have been so impressed with how all of the children’s phonics skills are developing! We have covered so many sounds already and some of the children are even beginning to form these sounds in words during their choosing time.

At home this week, I would like the children to focus on the sounds g, o, c, k and ck. Use the sound cards in the children’s reading packs and flash them at the children in different orders to ensure they can confidently recognise them. The children are also beginning to blend and you could put the sound cards together to make simple 3 letter (cvc) words using the sounds e.g. ‘s-i-p’, ‘c-a-t’, ‘g-o-t’ etc. Only use the sounds we have previously learnt to make these words, ‘s, a, t, p, i, n, g, o, c, k, ck’. Ensure the children use robot arms as demonstrated in the parents evening video to support them with their blending.
